Hills 5A big thank you to Jon Glanville for another superb virtual rogaine, this time around the lake and hills of Tuggeranong and Kambah. Jon found lots of hidden gems with sculptures, artwork, interesting rocks, great views and a course that went close to a few cafes. All of these temptations did not slow down our fastest rogainers with six people getting around the whole course in less than four hours.

Our overall winner was TIM COCHRANE. Tim had three runs around the course.

Notible category winners were second placed Mens Youth Oscar Brown, Craig Wisdom winning the Mens Vets, Supervets and Ultravets, Alex Thorman, Charles Bootes and Cecilia Pascoe as the first mixed team, Eloise Wilson and Amber Thomas first womens team, Elizabeth Dunbar and Valerie Barker winning the Womens Vets, Supervets and Ultravets and Craig, Archie, Kerrie and Zahlia Cowan the first family team.

There were 81 finishers of the virtual rogaine and a few other people who did not officially enter. There were a few people like TIm and Liz Widdicombe who came back for two or three times.

It's not too late to enjoy this course or any of the other virtual rogaines that have been held ovee the last few years. All the maps, notes and other instructions are on the Virtual Rogaines web page.

Hills 3Views 4This year's virtualgaine heads south to Mt Arawang, Mt Taylor, McQuoid’s Hill, Urambi Hills and the Tuggeranong valley suburbs of Kambah, Oxley and Greenway. The map features the lovely Tuggeranong lakeside, many suburban playgrounds, and you can explore the back sides of McQuoids and Urambi Hills. Course Setter Jon Glanville has set challenges for the runners who think they might be able to get around the whole course and dilemmas for those who will only take in part of the course. Being a MapRun event though, you can always come back for a second go.

The official course runs from 25 May to 10 June inclusive, at which time we will publish results. Teams and solo rogainers welcome.

PaddyTrophyTable

Thanks to our super course setters Tim Cochrane, Michael Reed and Emily Stewart-Reed for setting a course for foot, paddle and bike around the Googong Reservoir. A warm to hot sunny day allowed people to enjoy themselves with most people choosing to take in the western foreshores area. Congratuations to overall winners of the foot event Xanda Kolesnikow and Ivan Koudashev and winners of the multi-sport category Clare Lonergan and Kieran Macdonell who on bikes only narrowly beat kayakers Jean Douglass and Ron Simpson. Photos from the day will be in the photo gallery in the next day or two.

24PPSeatView1The Paddy Pallin 6 hr Foot and Mountain Bike/Kayak rogaine will be at Googong Foreshores Reservoir near Queanbeyan. The event will run 10 am - 4 pm, with maps from 8:30 am. $34 Full entry, $27 concession, under 14 free. No solo entries for this event - teams of 2 to 5 people.

Entries are open to Sunday 25 February 11:59 pm without late fees.

There will be the usual 6 hr foot event and we will also have controls for people to visit on mountain bikes or kayaks. If you wish to use either a mountain bike or a kayak or both we will have a combined multi-sport categoy. Please read the additional information on the event page if you are bringing your bike or kayak.

We need a couple of helpers on the day and control collectors. Please contact Julie if you can help.

Hartley Catering

It is with a heavy heart that we farewell Hartley Lifecare as our ongoing caterers for ACTRA events. Deb and the team from Hartley have been integral members of the ACTRA team over many years, providing food and sustenance - from ice blocks and watermelon at twilight events, to hearty massaman curries at chilly 24 hour events. And we can't forget the toasties! 

From ACTRA, we say a big thank you to Deb and the team for all their efforts over the years. We will miss you! 

What does this mean? It means we are in urgent need to find alternative caterers for our future events. Due to our size, self-catering is not an option on an ongoing way. So we are seeking help from the broader ACTRA membership. We are looking for ideas on community groups and charities that might like to provide catering at our events to boost their fundraising. This might be for just a few events or organisations willing to take on all our events (from winter 4 hour and metrogaine to the annual 24 hour event and night/day event). 
 
What do we want from you? We are seeking ideas and possible leads. The Committee would follow up with the organisation/group with more information. The caterers need to be familiar with, and follow, food standards for safe catering. Preference is for groups who already have equipment, but that's not a deal breaker.
