The results of the 2026 Realm of the Owl virtualgaine are in. Overall winner was Ryan Stocks with a blistering course clearance of 2:16 hrs! Alex Thorman and Guyver Fu took 2nd and 3rd place outright (and open mens). Chloe Woodburn won the open womens by a long way with her course clearance in 3:12 hrs. We had 112 finishes, with some people having 2 or 3 events. Congratulations to all winners - a certificate will be delivered via owl-mail to you. See the full results under the results button below.
The 2026 Realm of the Owl virtualgaine was held in the Belconnen region. The event start/finish (aka Hash House) was behind the CIT Bruce Campus, at the entrance to Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve, off Purdie Street, near CIT. This is shown as a triangle near the centre of the map. There is ample free parking in the CIT car park.
A very big thank you to our setter Jon Glanville, for another fun course with lots of sites of interest and Julie Quinn, vetter. Here are a few photos of hidden gems in the Virtualgaine gallery.
The event course was open between Saturday 23 May and the end of Monday 8 June 2026. However, the course remains open in MapRun if you wish to do a rogaine.
Scoring in a virtual rogaine works using MapRun on your phone. Please download and read these instructions on using MapRun to learn how to use the App. The App uses the GPS on your phone to work out you are at the control location. To score a control you will need to be within 10-15 m of the feature. Check your detailed control descriptions as there are no flags. The MapRun App will show the map on your phone screen but if you prefer to be able to see the whole map, there will be a link on this page before the event to download and print your own copy.
Thank you to Paddy Pallin's (Lonsdale Street, Civic) for holding copies of the map for competitors.
If you took pictures of your event and would like to add them to the event galley, please contact David for a link to upload (we're not including a link here to keep the 'bots at bay).
Had lots of fun? You can also walk/run around some of the other virtualgaine events from previous years. Orienteering ACT also has lots of small MapRun events around Canberra.
