This year’s Night and Day/Cycle events will be in scenic Tallaganda Stat
 e Forest, just hour east of Canberra. Rogainers can expect a 50:50 mix of p
 ine and native forest, with a course designed for all levels of experience.

 ny gravel or mountain bike will be able to easily get around the course. Yo

The 5 hour night event will commence by way of a mass star
 t at 5pm sharp on Saturday, 19 September, with a final briefing at 4:50pm.

Electronic scoring
 : As this event is using the Navlight system of scoring, each team member w
 ill be issued with a wristband and tag upon registration.\n
You will also b
 e given pre-marked maps, control descriptions, course setter's notes and a 
 small copy of the map to be used as a flight plan. We recommend that you ar
 rive at least an hour prior to the start of the event to allow enough time 
 for final preparations and route planning. Each team must mark their intend
 ed route on the flight plan and hand it in before starting. \n
Map and Cour
 se Details\n
There will be one A3 map (297x420mm), 1:25,000 with 10 m conto
 ur interval. Magnetic north lines are marked on the map. Out of bounds area
 s are marked in pink shading. It contains mainly native bush and pine fores
 t. The course setters notes and control descriptions have been printed on t
 he back. The altitude ranges from approximately 900 to 1300 m. \n
The map i
 s printed on Teslin paper which is very tough and generally does not need t
 o be covered in contact. \n
Travel can vary from very fast in areas of flat
 , open forest to very slow on steeper slopes of dense vegetation. Pine plan
 tations are in various stages from relatively recently logged to dense and 
 almost impassable.\n
Lawyer vine occurs throughout the course. The vine pro
 duces long canes which can be thin, tough and have nasty small thorns that 
 cause cuts.\n
Water\n
Please bring enough water for Hash House use and for 
 at least 3 hours on course. There are 2 water drops on course. At each wate
 r drop there is a pump that screws into the top of the water container to u
 se. We do not recommend drinking any water found on course without sterilis
 ation. There is likely to be water in the larger creeks. \n
Camping\n
Campi
 ng is available at the hash house. When you arrive, please indicate to the 
 marshal if you are planning on camping and you will be directed to the dedi
 cated camping area.\n

Summary of Event Rules and Scoring\n

The only naviga
 tional aids permitted are the maps we provide together with your compasses.
 
Teams consist of 2 to 5 competitors and must remain within earshot of each
  other at all times. All members must simultaneously get to within 5m of ea
 ch control point.
All team members must punch their Navlight tags at each c
 ontrol to score points.
If a Navlight punch has failed, record the three le
 tter code visible inside the end of the punch.
Competitors must not enter o
 ut-of-bounds areas; gates must be left as found; stock must not be disturbe
 d.
The organisers may disqualify a team if it acts against these rules or a
 gainst the spirit of the event.
A team can retire a member at the hash hous
 e. This will finish that team's event. A new team can form but it must star
 t with zero score.
Late Penalty: 10 points per minute (or part) late. Disqu
 alification if more than 30 minutes late.
If teams score equal points then 
 the first team home will have a higher rank.
