Spring Rogaine

Spring Rogaine

Spring Rogaine: Inverary not contrary
12 October 2019
6 and 12 hour events - starting at 11am
Ā
The last ACTRA rogaine for 2019 will be held in the Bungonia plateau of Morton National Park and some adjoining private property.
Ā
The area is open and gently undulating native forest (my favourite).Ā  Also friendly local farmers have allowed access onto their very easy going paddocks and there are some firetrails.Ā  Check out the photos on smugmug.Ā  Barkley has been out there taking selfies at some of the control locations and has given his tick of approval - ā€œJust like homeā€ he said. Ā It takes about 1.5 hours to drive from Canberra. Ā There is free camping at the HH site on a flat grassy paddock and plenty of parking space.Ā
Ā
We are also looking for on the day help and volunteers.

Please email rogaine.mail@gmail.com or call 6248 9874 if you can help or have queries about the rogaine.
Ā
Entries open soon.

Australasian ChampsĀ 9-10 November, St Helens Tasmania

Rogaining Tasmania is excited to announce that the venue for the 2019 Australasian Rogaining Championships is St Helens, Tasmania. The event will be held in 6 months’ time, on the weekend of 9-10th November, 2019. This fantastic rogaining area has terrain ranging from steep areas with extensive granite outcropping to flatter, more subtle terrain that was historically utilised for tin mining. The map includes the sleepy, coastal township of Binalong Bay and the world famous Bay of Fires area, a mecca for travellers who love the outdoors.

St Helens is on Tasmania’s north-east coast approximately 3½ hours’ drive from Hobart and 2½ hours’ drive from Launceston. Both these cities have domestic airports. St Helens is a fully serviced town with cafĆ©s, restaurants, banks, supermarkets, etc. The organisers will be providing bus transport from Launceston for the event but why not stay for a longer break and enjoy Tasmania. At this time of year car-hire and accommodation can be readily booked in advance. For information on tourist destinations and self-drive itineraries visit the Discover Tasmania website.

Event updates will be posted on the event website and Facebook page, including information about opening of entries.

Please mark this date in your calendars and spread the word with your networks. It would be great to see you in Tasmania this November!
Barkley's Day/Night/Cyclegaine

For the cyclegaine Barkley and his team of Redbacks (Mikey, Oli, Jozef & Jim) had a great time out in the sunshine and cycling around what was a pretty speccy course (minus the blackberries!). Pictures were taken at some of the amazing lookouts and Barkley enjoyed hurtling down some of the fire trails and single tracks on the bike – it was nice just letting the wheels take the team downhill! Unfortunately, tragedy struck a few hours in when Jozef had a bike malfunction forcing him off his bike, however Barkley enjoyed watching Jozef push his bike to the remaining controls (although Jozef probably didn’t find it as fun!). Thankfully the team made it back to the Hash House in time and all in all a good time was had by Barkley and the team in what was a terrific course and region for rogaining. Cheers to Brad and co for running a terrific rogaine.
------
Barkley, the ACTRA koala mascot, ventured out with Momoka, Johann and Damo at the recent 5h Night Rogaine. Here's how they spent their evening.
In the midst of training for ANU’s infamous Inward Bound, the team needed a competent nav to steer them towards a good result. Fortunately, Barkley was there to guide the team around with his extensive knowledge of all things rogaining. Barkley took full advantage of his cosy nest in the pocket of Momoka’s bag, opting to send the team up some very silly hills so that he could enjoy the views in comfort. Barkley also seemed to have conveniently place himself inside the pocket when he sent the team sliding down hills on their backsides, bringing into question how much of a team-player Barkley actually is.
However, Barkley casted all doubts aside when he rallied the team in the closing hour of the rogaine, powering the team on through to the finish line to achieve the pinnacle of rogaining goals – fresh toasties.
Aside from the lovely scenery, the highlight from the rogaine occurred during the team’s ā€˜joke time’, where the following Christmas cracker-worthy gem was shared:

Q: Why did the skeleton drink the milk?
A: Because it was good for his bones!
