ACT ROGAINING ASSOCIATION BULLETIN‍

L‍ate June (or very very early July) 2026

In this edition:

Winter Four Hour Entries Open (19 July)

PICTURE

This year's winter four hour rogaine will be on the 19th of July and close to home in the Kowen pine forest. The couse has been set by Leanne and Sandy and will take in pine, grassland, eucalypt forest, and great views of the Brindabellas.

We're limited to 300 persons so get in quick, the Paddy Pallin Rogaine was so popular we had to implement a waitlist after more than 400 people entered!

We're also looking for volunteers! Especially people experienced with admin (computer and navlights).  We are also looking for someone with a 4WD who would be able to tow the equipment trailer to the event on the morning of the event (reimbursement for use will be paid).

If you can help, please contact Leanne at: secretary@act.rogaine.asn.au

Australasian Rogaining Championship Entries Open (29-30 August)

PICTURE

If you haven't gotten your entry in for the Australasian Championship, now's the time to secure your place in what's looking like a great event in South East Queensland. The course (which looks amazing, see photos here) has been designed with all levels of rogainers in mind.

Entry closes midnight 15 August.

Last Chance for Intervarsity Scholarship Applications

‍University rogainers are invited to apply by 1 July to have travel costs covered to go to the Australian Intervarsity Rogaining Championships, being held in conjunction with the Australasian Rogaining Championships on 29-30 August in Qld. Nominate your team now!

To participate in an Australian Intervarsity Rogaining Championships, students must be in teams consisting of 2-5 students from the same university. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible. There is no age restriction, ie. under-graduate, mature age and post-graduate students qualify.

ACTRA will select a team to receive the ACT bursary. To apply, please contact Kelvin Peh.

Briefly outline who you team is, what university you are representing, your rogaining experience and why you believe you would do well at the championship. We will look more favorably on teams that have competed in 24 hour events but don't let that restrict you from applying.

Expressions of Interest: Bus to Australasian Champs

We're seeking expressions of interest for booking a bus to the Australasian championship rogaine in Queensland, driving via Sydney. Probably leaving early Friday morning and returning very late Sunday night. If you would be interested in catching the bus, please contact David using the button below.

Metrogaine Call for Volunteers

Make sure your calendars are marked for the Metrogaine on the 9th of August. Wendy is putting together another great course taking in the suburbs and reserves of Canberra.

We still need volunteers too for control hanging and on the day admin. If you can, please reach out to Wendy using the button below.

We'd like to congratulate one of our friends from Victoria, Merv Trease who was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the King's Birthday Honours.

Merv's award is for his service to rogaining and orienteering, and to bushland search and rescue.

Merv's full citation (and many achievements) can be found on the Australian Honours website.

ACTRA Committee Profiles

R‍ogaining wouldn't exist without our volunteer committe members. Today we'd like to introduce you to two of our newest members who joined at the last AGM in April.

E‍rin Ronge

Erin Ronge

I’m Erin and am very excited to be a General ACTRA Committee member this year! I took the well-trodden path of getting involved in ACTRA events through Inward Bound during my first year at ANU and never looked back. I particularly love the sense of community that ACTRA provides - bringing people together from all walks of life to enjoy the outdoors and take on a challenge. A memorable rogaining experience for me was wading through the Orroral River during the recent Paddy Pallin 6hr Rogaine and then proceeding to sit on and get swarmed by an ant nest (just my luck!). I’m looking forward to giving back and getting involved, and if you ever see me at an ACTRA event, please don’t be afraid to come say hi. ‍

Hi, I'm Oscar! My love for reading maps dates back to the first time I tried orienteering at the age of 11, and I have been a regular at ACTRA events since moving to Canberra in 2022. My best rogaining experience was the 2024 ACT Championships at Black Ridge, where the gorgeous open forest and extensive contour detail made for an incredibly challenging but enjoyable course. As a general committee member, I look forward to lending a hand and helping to organise future rogaining events!
