Realm of the Owl 2026 Virtualgaine Results

PICTURE

The 2026 virtual rogaine in Belconnen has finished. Congratulations to winner Ryan Stocks with his impressive 2:16 hrs clearance of the course. Chasing the course clearance and also setting quick times were a further 20 people (some in teams). Our setter will be thinking of you all next year.

Congrats to Womens open winner Chloe Woodburn and Mixed team winners Steve Hanley and Emily Hill. Full official and MapRun results are linked from the event page

Jon Glanville set a course with many interesting locations. One that might have looked a bit vague on the map, #74 near the University of Canberra, turned out to be not so hard as people approached it from all directions and found it! The image above is many of the routes people took.

Did you miss out? The course is still open in MapRun - just go to the virtualgaine web page to find the map and course setters notes.

Winter 4 hr - Sunday 19 July

The winter 4 hour rogaine will be held on Sunday 19 July from 10:30am in the eastern side of Kowen Forest, including Sparrow Hill. This is just 10 minutes drive from Queanbeyan.

Leanne and Sandy have been out finding all the best spots in the forest (did you know there were beautiful dams?) and they have promised a cracker sunny day like this photo. Want more tempting? Check out the start of the photo gallery.

A request

We would like one more person to vet and hang flags; several people to help out on the day with admin; and people to collect controls. If you would like to volunteer for the event, please contact Leanne.

Entries will open late June. Keep an eye on the event web page.‍

Intervarsity rogaine champs - nominations by 1 July‍

We're looking for university rogainers who want a cheap trip to Queensland.

You can have your travel costs covered to go to the Australian Intervarsity Rogaining Championships being held in conjunction with the Australasian Rogaining Championships on 29-30 August in Qld. Nominate your team now!

Details…

To participate in an Australian Intervarsity Rogaining Championships, students must be in teams consisting of 2-5 students from the same university. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible. There is no age restriction, ie. under-graduate, mature age and post-graduate students qualify.

Travel bursaries are available to cover the travel costs of one team from each state/territory to compete at the Intervarsity Rogaining Championships.

ACTRA will select a team to receive the ACT bursary. To apply, please contact Kelvin Peh by 1 July. Briefly outline who you team is, what university you are representing, your rogaining experience and why you believe you would do well at the championship. We will look more favorably on teams that have competed in 24 hour events but don't let that restrict you from applying.

New features in Rogaine Results‍ website

The rogaine-results.com website that ACTRA uses to publish Navlight event results has recently had some new features added.

In the team routes display, team speed can now be colour-coded - especially useful if a GPS track has been uploaded. There is now also a replay feature where the selected teams routes are animated over the time period of the event, with options for slow and fast replay speed.‍

There is also a Route Planner tab which allows controls to be selected in a route and gives analysis of points, distance (straight line), climb, descent and efficiency. So now you can see what alternative routes or refinements might have resulted in a better score - what if some controls were left out and some others added, etc?‍

A great opportunity to go back and review a recent event and see if you could have improved.‍

NSW Rogaining Champs -  25-26 July Lake Macquarie‍

Th‍is year's NSW Rogaining Championships is situated in the Watagans near Newcastle, with most of the map incorporating the Olney and Watagan State Forests. There will be wallabies, wombats, bandicoots, goannas and more goannas. Also, featuring several awesome towering or plummeting waterfalls, water junctions, and gullies of towering blue gums and eucalypt forest. It will zigzag areas of the Great North Walk. Unfortunately, although setters will try to steer clear, there will be sections of Lawyer Vine, fallen brush and a few leeches! Plenty of camping nearby and multitudes of tracks around the start location. The Entry fee covers dinner Saturday, breakfast and lunch Sunday, and of course the Lake Macquarie Tea and Damper!
